Preseason starts today! 1. Show of hands, who's back for some fantasy madness. 2. Should we stick to MLS official game, or try out some draft league, like draftmls.com/? It would make dealing with player pickups and such so much easier to manage. 3. Keepers! After last year's constructive discussions, I suggest we try to implement some early form of keepers for the league - like, say, 2 players to be kept for 2018. If you guys are OK with this, we can then talk in more detail.

In my view, keepers are not workable on the MLS website. The captain bonus creates too much of an advantage for the teams that draft early. And trying to reduce the advantage would be exceedingly difficult, in light of the salary aspect of the game.
The website suggested above apparently does away with the captain bonus and the salaries. That makes keepers at least a possibility, if we switch websites. I am inclined to favor the new site, with or without keepers, because I hate the captain bonus.
If we plan to have keepers for 2018, I would suggest that the keepers become draft picks. In other words, if you keep Giovinco from 2017, then Giovinco is required to be your first round pick in 2018. You have to decide in advance of the draft. If Atlanta United signs Lionel Messi, and you luck into the first pick, you might waive Giovinco to take Messi. But you would have to do that before the draft starts.

In this (awesome) baseball league I'm in, the rule is we can keep players with a 2 round penalty in the next draft. So if you want to keep whoever you drafted in round 5, next year you'll have to use your round 3 pick on him, etc. Also, this way, players drafted in rd 1 and 2 cannot be kept - which makes searching for valuable keepers a much more fun activity, and it prevents teams from always sticking to the same rd 1 pick.

I wasn't aware of Draft MLS until Cristane posted the link. That is excellent! I need to take a closer look at the scoring system, but it looks very promising.

I'm on the fence guys...I've had trouble keeping up with fantasy due to some heavy parental care duties and some extra stuff going on at school. I haven't tended my EPL team for weeks. My father's treatment (cancer) is over though and things are lifting a little. And draftmls looks promising; it might make it easier to keep up and help us avoid some of the recent rules/roster complications. I'm going to give it a look and see how things go in the next week or two, will stay in touch.

Aviators and PhilMatic have informed me they are dropping out. That leaves at most 10 teams from last year, not really enough, given the MLS has now expanded to 22 teams.

Hey all. I've been crazy busy and meaning to check in for a while. I really can't commit to do much work to make things happen this year but I think I could commit to playing again. I'd probably be in favor of DraftMLS too. Might not be perfect for what we all like but it is set up already as a draft league I think so a lot of our challenges are addressed for us. I'll start checking in regularly to see if we have enough to give it a go.

Okay, our current list is:
Yankees Redmond Town Epikoinos Long Beach LoboMojo Rocket City Mustang Sally Top Shelf
Romaniac is coy. We need to hear from Stanley, Highbury and Waterloo.
If all those players return, we have 12 teams, barely enough. I would like to see 14. So please recruit if you know anyone who might be interested.

Tried registering a test league on draftmls.com, and it looks pretty good to me. I don't know how the season and point calculations and stuff will go, but the early options are solid, I feel this could actually work. First of all, we can have a draft. An actual live draft. So we have plenty of time to find 12-14 teams for the league - we could have the draft just before the season starts, we don't need to do it manually over 2 weeks in the forum. Also, for people concerned about lack of time, this will considerably simplify things. Picking up free agents will be as simple as browsing the list of available players. Speaking of free agents - the site allows for 2 options for waivers - either "reset to reverse standings each week", or "move to last after claim, never reset order". We can discuss which one we should use.
Thoughts?

Stanley is the process of moving to a new city/new job, so he doesn't think he can draft. If we can find someone to pick his team, he thinks he would be able to pick it from there and play.
